This is a quick semi actual play on a no prep game I ran and some thoughts I took away from it.
On the way up for some dinner and drinks with friends I decided to run a sweet ass m20 pickup game based on a little idea I had. The basic idea of the game was as follows:
The players were setting out to help a village that cohabited with Blink Dogs to protect it. The main pack of Blink Dogs and the bulk of the village’s soldiers ventured out to investigate a planar disturbance. While they were gone a band of Kobolds stole the magic/voice of the alpha Blink Dog who stayed behind.
I had thought up a sweet venture for 4 players (the number there) but it ended up only being 2 who decided to play fighters. The first encounter was well scaled (woot), but the 2nd was a bit over the top (because I was drunkish) and the third was probably balanced for a party of 4.
Lesson learned from the endeavor was maybe it’s a good idea to rescale all the encounters quick before your ripped.
Anyone have thoughts for enhancing your beer and pretzel games?
