Not to make light of Sandy but it got me thinking about what interesting fantasy plot elements could be centered around a huricane or other similar disasters. I thought of some seeds (which I’ll list below) but I’d love to hear what others have thought of.
- Rebuilding: this one might be interesting but is probably of interest to those specifically interested in politics and such. Likewise this could also be a great way to draw in your players and make them really truly care about a place where you could base allot of adventures out of even after revival.
- Hunger Pains: maybe your civilized areas weathered things ok but what happens to the monsters and more savage beasties. For example: what happens when the local Orc and Kobold tribes recent plunders from the towns and cities is washed away. You could end up with two on their own formidable monsters forced to band together to try and salvage the season before winter comes. The brute force of Orcs and the cunning of Kobolds could end up being a terrifying mix. Additionally what if a particularly massive storm ends up stranding a grumpy Kraken in a giant lake?
- Fantasy pollution: lets say you have a particularly alchemy heavy region that dumps lots and lots of pollutants into the ocean. If a massive hurricane ends up sending that run off pollution back into the coast as well as overturning the massive alchemical vats. With all the running into the streets (and sewers) what horrific/gonzo things start happening…maybe the first oozes are created?
Anyway what awesome storm related plot seeds can you think up? Have you ever used a storm as a central aspect to a plot line?
