Alternate Attribute Generation

Just wanted to share a quick alternate method of attribute generation I tried out the other day.

For normal power level characters 2d6+8 in order no swapping.

I could imagine this slightly modified in the following situations:

  • Low power level: 1d6+8 (+9 if you want everyone to at least be average)
  • Medium power level: 2d6+8
  • High powered: 3d6(drop the lowest)+8

For some reason this feels like a familiar way of rolling attributes so I may have read it someplace; but either way it worked out great. The attribute spreads were nice and no one was griping about having less than a 10 in a stat.

What attribute generation methods do you use that aren’t the norm?
